Can You Dig It?

Not only is Michael Wisner’s Southwestern-inspired contemporary pottery a stunning home accent, but it’s also locally handcrafted from the very earth it invokes. In the Elk Mountains outside Aspen, Wisner excavates his own clay (see inset), filters it to remove rocks and debris, hand-coils it (a shaping technique), and incises the textured pattern. Find his pieces at galleries in Aspen, Basalt, and Redstone—or closer to home at Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden—and put a little piece of Colorado on your table this fall.
